Settle College Celebrates A Level and Vocational Qualification Success

Settle College is delighted to celebrate the achievements of students in this year's A Level and vocational qualification results. Once again, students have demonstrated determination, resilience and ambition, securing excellent outcomes across a broad range of academic and vocational subjects and progressing to a wide variety of exciting future pathways.

These results reflect the hard work and commitment shown by students throughout their time in the Sixth Form, supported by dedicated staff and families. Our students are now moving on to university, higher and degree apprenticeships, employment, specialist training programmes and exciting gap year opportunities.

Outstanding Individual Achievements

Among the many successes this year are:

Immy Calverley achieved A, A and Distinction* in Biology, Psychology and Sport. Immi described herself as "dead happy" with her results and will be heading to Northumbria University to study Sports Science.

Freya Curtis achieved an excellent A, A, B, B in Photography, EPQ, English Language and Psychology. Reflecting on her results, she spoke of the sense of relief after all her hard work and is now preparing to study Sociology and Criminology at the University of Liverpool.

Rosie Pettit achieved A, A, B in Geography, Biology and Chemistry. Having secured the grades she needed, Rosie will be progressing to Newcastle University to study Biomedical Science.

Edward Whaley, former Head Boy, achieved A, B, B in Biology, Geography and Mathematics. Edward said: "I'm so happy and pleased that all the hard work has paid off. A big thank you to all my teachers over the last two years and everyone who has played a part in my education." He is now heading to study Architecture at the University of Liverpool.

Cameron Ettenfield, who joined Settle College Sixth Form from Skipton Academy, achieved B, B, C in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Cameron commented: "I'm so happy. I've done much better than I could have hoped for and I'm now heading to Newcastle University to study Chemistry."

Alongside these individual successes, many members of the year group have secured places at universities across the country, whilst others have chosen apprenticeships and employment opportunities. Several students have embarked on exciting gap year experiences, including conservation projects and ski season placements, before moving into higher education or careers.

Success Across the Curriculum

As a small Sixth Form, Settle College students completed more than 21 different qualifications, demonstrating the breadth of opportunities available to them.

Students achieved particularly strong outcomes in a range of A Level subjects, with A*-B performance above the national average in:

Photography (75%)
English Language (67%)
Biology (63%)
Psychology (57%)
Vocational courses also continued to be a significant strength, with more than 75% of grades in Business, IT and Sport awarded at Distinction or Distinction* level.

A Community to Be Proud Of

Headteacher Gareth Whitaker said:

"I am incredibly proud of every student in this year's cohort. Their achievements represent years of hard work, dedication and perseverance, and each student should take great pride in what they have accomplished.

What makes me especially proud is not only the grades our students have achieved, but the character they have shown throughout their time with us. They have embraced opportunities, supported one another and demonstrated the values that make Settle College such a special community.

Whether students are progressing to university, apprenticeships, employment, conservation work, ski seasons or other exciting opportunities, they leave us exceptionally well prepared for the next stage of their lives. We are delighted to celebrate their success and look forward to hearing about their future achievements."

He added:

"I would also like to thank our dedicated staff, parents and carers whose encouragement and support have played such an important role in helping our young people succeed. These achievements are a testament to the strength of our whole school community."
