Sustainability

At Settle College we want our students to develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Sustainability is not simply about protecting the environment. It is about making thoughtful decisions that support the wellbeing of current and future generations. As a school at the heart of a rural community, we recognise both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with our unique location and surroundings.

Over recent years we have taken positive steps to improve the sustainability of our estate and operations, including improvements to heating efficiency, investment in LED lighting, tree planting projects, wildlife habitat creation and initiatives to reduce waste. At the same time, we continue to strengthen opportunities for students to engage with environmental issues through learning, leadership and practical action.

Our Climate Action Plan sets out how we will build on this work through four key areas:

  • Adaptation and resilience
  • Biodiversity
  • Climate education and green careers
  • Decarbonisation

The plan is intended to be an evolving document. We will review our progress regularly, celebrate achievements and identify new opportunities to reduce our environmental impact while enhancing learning opportunities for students.

We would like to thank our students, staff, governors, parents and community partners for their support in helping Settle College play its part in creating a more sustainable future.
