Course Requirements
5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above, which must include: GCSE French Grade 6.
Course Description (AS)
Students will continue to develop the four language skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing and, in addition, study French culture and current affairs topics. Students will learn from newspapers, magazines, television and radio programmes and DVDs. Up-to-date topics will include media, popular culture and relationship issues. Spending time in France and/or French speaking countries will be encouraged.
Course Description (A2)
Students will continue to develop their language skills and current affairs knowledge and, in addition, will study aspects of the multicultural society, contemporary social issues, politics and culture.
Assessment Procedure
Internal tests during the course culminate in the AS-Level examination at the end of Year 12 and the A2-Level examination at the end of Year 13.
Progression
French can be used as an entry qualification to a wide variety of courses at University or College, as a basis for a Modern Language course or as an element of a Joint or Combined course. Combinations have been as diverse as French and Linguistics, French and Psychology and French and Business Studies. Students are invited to take a look on www.language.org.uk and view the possibilities.

Language skills can take students a long way! Many Higher Education institutions now offer students the opportunity to continue their Modern Languages study regardless of degree choice. Students wishing to go into Primary Education or Medicine are strongly recommended to consider including foreign language study in their plans.
