LAMDA - Exams and Qualifications

8 Dec 23

At Settle College we offer students in all year groups the opportunity to take graded LAMDA qualifications in Performance and Communication. LAMDA stands for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and is one of the oldest drama schools in the world and their exams are the performance and communication equivalent of a music exam. There are 8 Grades with each one being marked as a Pass, Merit or Distinction and students will start at the grade that is best suited to their ability.

LAMDA exams are designed to help young people improve and develop their self-confidence, vocal and physical communication skills and their creativity. LAMDA Exams aren’t just for those who want to pursue an acting career - in fact, the transferable skills LAMDA teaches are applicable in any walk of life.  LAMDA qualifications can also help young people to stand out in interviews and the Level 3 qualifications (known as the medal grades) carry UCAS points which can contribute to university entry.

As well as offering exams in Acting, students at Settle College can also choose from Speaking Verse and Prose, Speaking in Public and the new Shakespeare syllabus. Lessons take place once per week in the Drama Studio and last 30 minutes; they can be taken as solo, paired or small group lessons and the exams can also be taken in these combinations. Lesson fees vary depending on the number of students and are billed every half term, and an examination fee is payable before students are entered for their exam.
