Welcome to Settle College
An extremely attractive site - the grounds are pleasantly landscaped
Settle College provides educational opportunities for all students in the 13-19 age range. We have developed our wider role as a Community College over a number of years and the facilities of the College are made available to the broader community through our comprehensive Community Education programme.
We benefit from a striking location, adjacent to a bustling market town and built on an extremely attractive site alongside the River Ribble. The grounds are pleasantly landscaped and home to a range of wildlife. A large sports area is accessible via an underpass with Settle Area Swimming Pool sharing this site.
The College buildings are themselves of various ages and occupy a variety of levels; however, all have disabled access. The original building was formerly a small girls' grammar school and various additions have been made at regular intervals. The most recent phase of building was completed in 2002, providing a new suite of rooms for Mathematics and for English although there is also an ongoing refurbishment programme to ensure a pleasant and modern working atmosphere throughout the complex.
In response to the changing demands and expectations of our community, we have been designated a specialist 'Technology College' since September 2004. The additional funding that this brings will enable us to improve still further the technological resources available to students and to work even more closely with the Primary and Middle Schools in North Craven. The appointment of an Advanced Skills Teacher in Technology, and a Technology Manager, will enable the College to develop this exciting new dimension to our facilities.
On transfer from Middle School to College we aim to minimise worries by close liaison with the middle schools and providing opportunities for pre-transfer visits and familiarisation with buildings, teachers and older students.
