Young Enterprise

Introduction to Young Enterprise at Settle College

Young Enterprise is the United Kingdom’s largest business and enterprise education charity. Every year they help 250,000 young people learn about business and the world of work. Their mission statement is “To inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.” Their guiding principle is “Learning by Doing”.

At Settle College Sixth Form, we offer all students the chance to take part in the Young Enterprise competition. Young Enterprise is a national competition aimed at giving young people the chance to set up a business. Their task is to develop a product from scratch that they can then sell in the marketplace.

2016-2017 Team ‘Pocket Power’

Its early days, but the team is keen to manufacture or import a product which will have all types of consumer interested.  The team is called ‘Pocket Power’ and has the theme ‘Making Life Easier’.

The team comprises of: Nathan Jeffs, Robert Capstick, Joe Cooper, Louis Francmanis, Adam Strickland and James King.

We are delighted, once again, to have the support of people from the Head Office of Skipton Building Society.  This year we are blessed with having two advisors: Jo Smith and Victoria Lyons. I am sure we will have a successful competition.

2014-15 Team “12Tech”

The team was keen to manufacture or import a product which they could develop from scratch and go on to sell in the marketplace.  The team, called ‘12Tech’,  was led by Ellie Sharp as Managing Director with Connor Hastie as Assistant Managing Director.

12TechLeft to right: Alice Taylor, Jack Edmondson, Sam Northrop, George Houldsworth, Connor Hastie (Assistant Managing Director, Ellie Sharp (Managing Director), James Swithenbank, Daniel Robinson, Sarah Holgate, Alice Jones, Holly Thornton, Amy Hird.

We were delighted to have the support of Mr. Stephen McNamara from the Head Office of Skipton Building Society, who worked with the group as an advisor.  Mr McNamara kindly offered the Building Society’s conference facilities for one of the team’s meetings. Students joked about the chance to utter those immortal words ‘You’re Fired!’ – à la Lord Sugar.

2013-14 Team “Horizon”
