Nara Dress Code

Japanese high schools in general each have a school uniform.  The design and color is different at each high school.  Many uniforms are black or navy blue because they are appropriate when we have ceremonial occasions.  At our school the girls’ uniform is a white blouse (summer time) or a dark blue jacket and skirt.  The boys’ uniform is a black jacket and pants.

There are many school rules at our school.  For example, we must not color our hair, wear make up, have our ears pierced, and so on.  Also we may bring our cellular phones to school, but we must turn them off while we are in school.  As cellular phones are essential for us today, I think this rule is good.

And at Nara High School, we must wear a pair of indoor shoes, like slippers.  Their colors are different depending on the grade you are in.  Now, first grade slippers are green, second grade are blue and third grade are red.  They are light and comfortable, so they are liked by everyone.

About lunchtime; some students eat lunch in the students’ dining hall or cafeteria.  Some students eat their lunch in their class.  If we want to eat lunch in the students’ dining hall, we have to buy a meal ticket.  Then, the women who work there serve us lunch in exchange for the ticket.  In the dining hall, we can choose to eat either a special lunch offer that changes from day to day or noodles.  There are also all kinds of sweet rolls or breads and many varieties of juice.  Also, there is even pudding.  When we eat lunch in our class, we usually put our desks together.  Lunch time is very fun.
