On 12th June Rob Hayes, Ben Dakin and Joao (Pedro) Quintas represented the Harrogate and Craven area at the North Yorkshire county trials at the Huntington Stadium, York. In near perfect conditions it was a great day out the competition was stiff as the best athletes from throughout the county were on top form at the height of the school athletics season. Rob was struggling with a calf injury and couldn’t replicate the form that saw him set a school age record of 1m 78 the previous week and finished 5th. Pedro fared well, although his jump of 10.83 did not quite match his season’s best. Ben Dakin, competing in two events jumped a year 9 record of 5.00 metres in finishing 4th in the jong jump, and won a place in the county team for the match against Humberside at the same venue a week later. Hi second place overall was the culmination of some excellent efforts throughout a season that saw him beat the county champion in an English Schools’ competition in May. Well done to all three of the boys.
