Nara prefecture is located in the Kansai region of Japan and is encircled by many other prefectures, for example, Osaka, Kyoto, Wakayama and Mie. Therefore, Nara is not near the sea. The capital, Nara city, is in the Nara Basin. It lies in the north of Nara prefecture. Nara was the first real capital of Japan, before Kyoto and Tokyo, so it is rich with history.
There is a big park near our school called Nara Koen (Nara Deer Park). It is very famous in Japan. The park is home to a lot of deer. Shika-Senbeis (Japanese crackers for deer) are sold everywhere in the park and you can feed them to the deer. There are many temples in the park, for instance, Todaiji-Temple. Todaiji contains the Great Buddha. It is the biggest bronze Buddha in the world. A lot of tourists come to see it. Also, the streets in Nara are lined with neat rows of stores and houses. This area of Nara is designated as a world cultural heritage site.
We like Nara very much. Please come to Nara in 2010. That year, we will celebrate the 1300th
Anniversary of the capital, Nara, Heijo-kyo.
Good bye!!
