Qualifications
Students study towards AS and A2 OCR Advancing Physics. This course has been developed by the Institute of Physics to contextualise Physics theory and develop students’ Physics knowledge and analytical skills to cope with the demands of studying Physics at degree level.
5 periods per week are allocated to Physics of which one is a double which is usually used for practical work. The course encompasses acquisition of theoretical Physics and Physics related practical skills, together with practical and theoretical application. Coursework includes practical skills and a research task in year 12 and a full investigation in year 13.
In 2009 there is a planned Physics trip to CERN, Geneva – the largest Particle Physics laboratory in the world and the birthplace of the World Wide Web. The school previously visited CERN in 2007 and toured the ATLAS project which at the time was under development. This year sees the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) being put into operation so the visit should see some cutting edge Science being put into practice.
