AQA AS / A2 Theatre Studies
At post-16 level, students have real scope to push their knowledge and understanding of theatre to the extreme. They begin to explore different forms and theory of theatre focusing on the work of practitioners such as Antonin Artaud, Peter Brook and Bertolt Brecht. We’ve had one practical exam perfrmed in a cave before now!
Students are expected to develop in the role of director and actor, using inspirations to devise and perform, as well as looking at how they would put such texts as Ibsen’s Hedda Gabbler or Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ into production.
Students who have a passion for all things theatrical flourish at this level, with both year groups scoring highly in the recent practical examination.
The course is delivered through five 50 minute lessons a week.
