KS4 Graphic Design

Autumn Term

Packaging

During the autumn term, students continue to develop their "design and make" skills through a packaging topic, using Adobe Photoshop to produce an example of high quality packaging for an everyday product.

Home learning tasks are set to develop students' capability in independent research.  As the topic moves to a conclusion, more emphasis is placed on completing work within a set timeframe.  This develops students' time management skills, providing them with experience of working to a strict deadline to complete a task.

Home learning tasks include:

  • Research tasks (questionnaires, collecting packaging, mood boards and product analysis work)
  • Ideas (a range of 6 different ones is required)
  • Development work - improving their nets (packaging templates) to an industrial standard, and making models of their chosen idea

Modelling a Concept Communications Device

This project concentrates on the modelling element of the Graphic Products course and looks at CAD/CAM in more detail, and includes:

  • Design ideas (completing 6 ideas)
  • Development work, and recording of "Pro Desktop" work
  • Planning how to make their chosen models

Spring Term

In the spring term, students concentrate on the controlled assessment element of "Designing and Making a Graphic Product", which normally features a board game.  Previous examples can be seen below:
