LEVEL 2 BTEC EXTENDED CERTIFICATE IN ART AND DESIGN
(Edexcel Art and Design)
The BTEC Extended Certificate in Art and Design is a practical, work-related course in which students gain the equivalent of two GCSE grades at A*-C. Students learn by completing projects and assignments which are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and set briefs.
The BTEC course in Art and Design is very practical, involving drawing, painting, printmaking, graphics and sculpture with the possibility of some textiles work for those students interested. Students also make at least one visit to an Art Gallery. At the end of the year, students exhibit the work they have done over the course.
This course comprises 100% controlled assessment - there are no external exams. The course is made up of four units – three core units and one specialist unit. Students should be aware that assessment via 100% controlled assessment requires that they have commitment, enthusiasm and good attendance. Enthusiasm and a taste for hard work are more important than the ability to draw.
Drawing and research work is set regularly as home learning and adds to the units students are working on in class.
We usually ask students to buy a folder for their work and a sketch book. Basic Art materials are also recommended, e.g. a range of pencils, blendable colour pencils, water-colours and paint-brushes. These can be purchased fairly cheaply from College. Students are also requested to contribute towards projects which use a high quantity of expensive materials, e.g. clay, textile and some 3D projects.
In past years Students have visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Liverpool Tate and Liverpool Museum.
