Year 9 Graphic Design : Lifestyle product packaging
Brief: Design and manufacture a sample package for a perfume/aftershave product. The perfume aftershave product is to be based on the customers lifestyle.
Objectives: The objectives below are listed for the two ends of the ability spectrum, i.e. for the weakest and the strongest pupils. Most pupils will fall somewhere between these extremes.
At the end of this module all students should be able to:
- Understand the main stages of designing and manufacturing a graphic product in industry.
- Understand that in industry designers rarely work alone, but as part of a team
- Be able to edit a limited number of images in simple ways using Adobe Photoshop.
- Be aware of the different file formats for picture files on a PC.
- Understand what Photo editing means.
- Employ techniques to aid creativity and creative thinking.
- Understand that the layout and size of text and images on a product helps it to appeal to a certain target market.
- Be able to construct simple shapes in isometric using an isometric grid.
- Understand how an net for an industrial package differs from a net they have previously made.
- Be able to design and make packaging using simple construction methods.
In addition, the more able students should be able to:
- Be able to edit a large range of images in complex ways using Adobe Photoshop.
- Understand the amount of pixels in a computer image relate to the quality of the image when resized.
- Be aware of the different file formats for picture files on a PC and their pros and cons.
- Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the impact of computers on graphic design.
- Alter the layout of text and images to make it appeal to a given target market.
- Be able to construct complex isometric drawings of products without the aid of a grid and shade these.
- Be able to design and make packaging based on complex shapes and using locking mechanisms
