ICT Facilities at Settle College

Technology College status has brought considerable benefits to the whole College, including significant investment in the ICT Infrastructure of the College, as shown below:

  • Two large ICT Suites, ensuring every student has a computer to work on, even in the largest
    classes
  • A dedicated high-specification Media Studies teaching room, with 23 dedicated media-editing computers incorporating the latest Adobe software, ensuring one PC per student in this subject
  • A dedicated high-specification CAD / CAM Technology teaching room, with 25 large-screen PCs featuring the latest Adobe software
  • A dedicated Sixth Form ICT Area, with specialist furniture installed to create a multi-functional ICT and study space
  • Data projectors in every classroom, with our programme to fit interactive whiteboards in all teaching rooms nearing completion
  • Specialist hardware in departments such as Design & Technology, Textiles and Music to support the curriculum - these include items such as CNC Routers, Lathes, Sewing Machines, Vinyl Cutters and much more
  • Fully Networked A3 colour printing facilities across the College
  • A brand new high-specification projection, sound and lighting system in the College Hall to
support Drama & Theatre Studies, Music events and other College activities, as well as being
avaliable to hire to outside groups.

The College has a dedicated full-time ICT Network Manager & ICT Technician, whose role is to work with all departments to maintain a high standard of ICT provision across the site, and to manage development projects to ensure the most up to the minute technology is incorporated into day to day teaching and learning activities.  The College prides itself on the reliability and robustness of its ICT system.

A major project to restructure and upgrade the College network has recently been completed, and the entire College is now on Windows 7 and Office 2010 for all PC's. The College has also invested in a process called Virtualisation, which has improved the performance of our network systems as well as reducing our electricity consumption withing the ICT Department.

The College is always on the look out for the next generation of new technology and is keen to improve and build upon its already impressive ICT facilities which we know are at the cutting edge - indeed some of the most up to date within North Yorkshire.
