ART OVERVIEW

Art is the area of the curriculum that allows every student to communicate in a very personal way.  The process of learning in art, we would hope, enables students to perceive themselves and the world in a unique way; deepening the student’s aesthetic responsiveness by enhancing the imagination and intensifying feelings, ideas and sensitivities.  The ability to see clearly, to draw, paint, model and handle technical processes (including the creative process) and equipment is essential in a student’s Art Education, in a world that increasingly relies on visual communication.

Art Education provides the basis for a number of career options not only for those students wishing to specialise in the Art field, i.e. fine art, graphics, textiles, fashion design, photography, 3-D design (furniture, jewellery, display).  Art Education also provides a basis for careers which require an understanding of design and visual effect such as architecture, engineering, industrial design, advertising and marketing, product design, interior design, etc.  Even when a career plan is not the intention, Art Education enables students to realise the satisfaction and enjoyment of creative ability and appreciation.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The primary intention of the Art Department is to give each student the opportunities to develop their individual creative identity, to give them the skills, knowledge and understanding with which they may express this individuality.

1.           Develop the inherent sensitivity of each individual student

2.           Enable response through utilising a planned, progressive and challenging experience

3.           Enhance students’ understanding of the creative process within.
