Welcome to Settle College

We have so much to celebrate at Settle College and have had a particularly rewarding year.  Recently we have:

 

  • achieved our best ever A2  results - above National Averages with an impressive 51% of our students achieving A and B grades.
  • improved GCSE results over the past 2 years.
  • achieved Healthy School Status.
  • achieved the Inclusion Quality Mark and become a Lead School for ‘narrowing the gap between boys' and girls' achievement.’
  • achieved the Dyslexia Quality Mark.
  • achieved Teacher and Learning Academy Status.
  • raised £3,000 for charity in 2008-09.
  • competed in Dance Rock Challenge with over 90 students involved.
  • introduced a student peer listening programme with 20 students trained as peer listeners.
  • established a Parent Partnership Group.
  • continued to develop our links with Theraputta National School in Amabalantota, Sri Lanka.
  • had 3 very successful Enterprise Days focusing on Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, Enterprise, Diversity and Fair Trade.
  • continued to enjoy success in sports e.g. Year 9 & 10 girls reached the national finals of the Carnegie rugby tournament at Wembley.
  • established a wide range of extra curricular activities such as Kangoo, Parkour, Cheerleading, Boxing and many more activities.
  • had some very successful school trips e.g. a Diversity trip to Liverpool, Battlefields Trip to France and Belgium, Gifted and Talented trip to the Houses of Parliament, French Exchange (in its 17th year), Theatre Trips.
  • opened a new Dance Studio and Sixth Form Centre.
  • been successful in our bid to lead on Creative and Media across North Craven.
  • re-vamped our curriculum to ensure a personalised learning experience for all of our students introducing new courses such as BTEC Dance, BTEC Drama, BTEC Sports, BTEC ICT, AQA Baccalaureate, Open University Courses, ASDAN COPE, Foundation Learning Tier courses, Level 2 courses such as Diversity and Equality and Healthy Eating.
  • presented a student workshop at the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust National Conference in Birmingham, with 4 of our students leading on a 21st Century Globalisation project for the SSAT.
  • been delighted to learn that one of our HLTAs has been awarded HLTA Of The Year for Yorkshire and Humberside.
  • contributed Art work to the Malham Safari, and our Post-16 students have led Art workshops for some of our feeder Primary Schools.
  • received a survey in which parents and students rated Settle College ‘good’ overall with many ‘outstanding’ features (Kirkland Rowell Survey November 2009) - see Principal’s Newsletter (February 2010) for more detailed feedback.
