As well as participating in a non-uniform day in aid of comic relief “red nose day”, Settle College Geography students were busy today running a chocolate tombola to raise funds for sanitation projects in poorer countries.
Said the students, “If you imagine children have to walk over an hour to get to school, and then there’s no water when you get there. School teachers have to leave their lessons for 20 mins each way collecting water. There are no toilets either. We have been helping to raise the much needed money to provide the school with these things we take for granted. We have been learning about this school through our Fair trade lessons in Geography.”
The picture below shows children at a school which has had taps installed through similar fundraising.
