World Book Day 2016 was a great success. There was a great range of costumes from Year 7 students and English Department teachers, as well as Form Tutors. They ranged from ‘Where’s Wally?’ to ‘Thing 1’ and ‘Thing 2.’ Most of the Year 7s dressed up and had a great day. The winner of the best costume competition was Laura Birrell, dressed up as ‘Thing 1.’
Over the week, a group of Year 7 students interviewed members of staff, to get their opinions and answers on book related questions. They interviewed Ms Costello, Ms Booth, Ms Tarbox and Miss Doyle. Thank you to Mrs Sobczak who filmed the responses and also to Mrs Lewis who organised the event.
One of the questions that we asked Ms Costello was: ‘What was your favourite book when you were younger?’ and she said, “The Mr Men Series,” which we all agreed was one of our personal favourites as well. We asked Ms Booth, ‘If you were a book character, who would you be and why? And she replied, “Atticus Finch from ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, as he always does the right thing.” Miss Doyle’s name for her autobiography, if she had one, would be ‘Knitty Nora, the Explorer’, as she loves knitting and exploring the World.
The week was great. We all had lots of fun and we hope to do it again next year.
